Parque de María Luisa is Sevilla's best-known public park, located next to the historic city centre. Originally part of the gardens of the San Telmo Palace, the area was donated to the city in 1893 and transformed into a landscaped park designed to serve as a major green space for residents and visitors alike.
Characterised by shaded pathways, fountains, Mediterranean trees and a number of notable monuments, including those dedicated to Miguel de Cervantes, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer and La Raza; the park offers a calm retreat from the surrounding urban environment. Its iconic scenic setting has also been used as a filming location, including scenes from Lawrence of Arabia.
